Golden Demon – the Beginning…

21 01 2011

Huh, kinda sounds like the name of a kick ass Kung Fu movie in the vein of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon etc. Nice.

In the wake of me being a little bit excited that Games Day/Golden Demon is back in Chicago this year, I decided to actually participate in Golden Demon this time around. I didn’t want to spread myself too thin and try and enter a bunch of stuff, so I picked 2 things I thought would be fun to have a go at. First is a 40K Nurgle chaos lord and second is going to be a Forge World venerable dready in Salamander livery. I’m a little nervous about entering, as I have seen what I’ll be going up against in past years, and I guess I’m a little underappreciating of my work sometimes. But, what the hell, even if I get an honorable mention, it’ll be worth it.

A week or two back, I saw a great article listed under the Int’l House of Paincakes ‘Weekly Top X’ which had a link to Brian’s blog ‘Roll With It’ and a rather splendid article on how to ‘Nurglize’ yo’ stuff. It gave such a simple way of making your plastic CSM mini’s look pock-marked and corroded. It helped sway my decision about doing another chaos lord, particularly a Nurgle one. Hopefully I’ll be able to do Brian some justice when applying this method. We’ll see!

Assembly has already started on the lord. Here we see the bare bones (pun intended), before going at him with a hot pin or two, and any GS-ing I will be applying:

I had the Typhus head kicking around in a bitz box, as well as the rather’detailed’ torso. I ordered the shoulder pads especially for the project from Ebay. I wanted to keep him relatively modest, no cloaks, rows of trophy racks etc, as I feel it will give me more to play with when it comes to GS-ing and painting.

The dready is still in bits right now, but he has been cleaned up and washed, ready for assembly. I’ll post up more as and when I get more done.

C+C most welcome.

cheers!

Nurgle lord – the end is in sight! (maybe)

5 01 2011

I can’t believe that I hadn’t posted these, or maybe I had, but I couldn’t find them…

Anyhoo, to kick off 2011, our first contender is a WCF veteran, as he’s been on here from the start, my Nurgle Lord. I tend to do a little, and put him away, then come back and do some more… still, he seems happy enough, belching and farting in my gaming closet… This year, though, I’m aiming to have more completed stuff posted and not just dribs and drabs. This guy, though, is the exception. He didn’t do too badly in a game I had just before xmas either. yay!

You can see the PP ‘Bloodstone’ base that I use for the basis of my rusted metal here.

A brown ink was over the bloodstone gives it depth…

Boltgun metal, chainmail highlights and some chestnut ink to finish the job!

He’s getting there! Another couple of hours should get the job done. In the meantime though, I am working on my Black Templars Rhino.

Black is such a pain in the arse to paint >sigh<

Planetstrike Tourney – Chicago @ Black Sun Games!

28 10 2009

FYI:

This tournament will begin on Sunday, Nov. 1st and end on Sunday, Nov. 29th. Armies will consist of 1750pts. of painted miniatures and will utilize both 5th edition and Planetstrike rules. Players are free to play at their leisure, so long as all battles are completed by Sunday, Nov. 29. I will provide my cell # to all participants so I can be reached if any problems arise and I am not present.

There is a $10 registration fee for entering. The fee can be paid at Black Sun Games or via my Paypal (please PM for Paypal information). Deadline for registration is Saturday, Oct. 31st.

Prize support will be provided by Black Sun Games.

Please email your army lists in either MS Word, Excel, or PDF format to ancientsociety79@gmail.com by Thursday, Oct. 29th

Basic Rules

• This tournament utilizes the normal 5th edition 40K rulebook and the Planetstrike expansion. The AdeptiCon INAT FAQ will be used (Updated 03.19.09). This FAQ can be found here: http://www.adepticon.org/wpfiles/inat/INATFAQv3.0.pdf

• Individual units that may have multiple rules versions will follow the rules presented in that army’s codex. Please take the time to review the relevant GW/Adepticon FAQ’s for clarifications.

• Special/Unique/Named Characters may be fielded, provided their individual rules allow them to be used in armies of 1750pts or less.

• All models must be WYSIWYG. Any model not represented properly will be removed from play. If this results in an illegal unit (below minimum squad size for example), then the entire unit will be removed

• All models MUST be fully painted to a 3-color minimum. Any model not painted to this standard will be removed from play. If this results in an illegal unit (below minimum squad size for example), then the entire unit will be removed

• Armies are limited to 1750pts. total. Please provide a clear, concise army list to your opposing player and the judge

• This tournament utilizes the Planetstrike force organization chart for all scenarios. The Planetstrike FOC is as follows (underlined units are COMPULSORY):

For attacking – 1 HQ (+2 HQ), 6 Elites, 6 Troops, 6 Fast Attack, 3 Heavy Support

For defending – 1 HQ (+2 HQ), 3 Elites, 2 Troops (+6 Troops), 3 Fast Attack, 6 Heavy Support

This will mean each player can have two separate 1750pt. army lists. If doing so, each list MUST be clearly marked as “Attacker” or “Defender”.

• Tournament judges’ rulings are final

Scoring

192 total points. 48 points per scenario divided into primary (20), secondary (15) and tertiary (10) objectives with three (3) +1 battle point modifiers.

Victory points will be used in the case of a tie.

Objectives

ANY non-vehicle unit (unless specifically stated otherwise in their relevant codex) may claim an objective, even if there is only a single model remaining, if it ends the game within 3”. Should an objective be claimed by both sides, it automatically counts as being claimed by the defender.

Chaos Lord WIP and Black Templar

27 08 2009

I thought I had already posted these, but a quick look revealed otherwise. I have been slowly working on my Nurgle Lord, playing around with the corroded metal. I think I have found a way that I am happy with, although it may get a final wash to dull it down a little. I’m undecided as to what color to do his cloak. Maybe a deep, worn red? I even thought about possible a dirty, off-white, maybe a remnant of his former days as a Death Guard under the Emperor. Any suggestions?

and here is my first completed Black Templar, not too much to say except, err, wibble. :)

Well, thats about it for now. Stay tuned, and please, join up with Chamber Militant!

Cheers

Paul

Nurgle Lord WIP! update

7 06 2009

OK, just a quickie before I go out for a game of 40K. I started on my Nurgle Lord the other night. I think i’m pretty happy with the armor color, but I want to experiment with some washes as well, check it out:

Hopefully I’ll get him finished this week. I’m pretty happy with how the helmet looks and i’m glad that I added the extra horns, as it makes him look a little more plaguebearer like.

Cheers!

Nurgle Chaos Terminator Lord – WIP

31 12 2008

Indeed, another project I managed to squeeze in when I had a spare few moments. As I mentioned earlier today, I picked up the Chaos Terminator Lord, and I have to say, it is a beautiful and spectacularly decadent mini to put together. I wanted him to be bombastic and looking ready to deal out some serious pain. I was having a hard time deciding what weapons to give him, as I loved all the combinations. In the end I decided on giving him lightning claws, as I figured the prospect of getting up close and personal with this guy would be truly terrifying. I added the cape and the spikey racks to add to the general air of malice that exudes from every weeping pore. Why not put him on the over-the-top chaos rubble base too, to add some extra height? so I did! it also allowed me to position him so it looks as though he’s about to jump over and start leathering the poop out of some poor, unfortunate sap. I was thinking that if it was any good, maybe even entering it into Golden Demon next year. Anyhoo, check out the pictures and see what you think!

Song of the moment: ‘Utopian Blaster’ By Cathedral :)

Quick update – December 30th

30 12 2008

Wow! what a busy holiday break! I think I need a vacation….

Added to the already swelling ranks. Newest additions to the mini collection are:

  • Box of Black Templar Sword Bretheren
  • Chaplain in Terminator Armor
  • Black Templar upgrade kit
  • Box of Sternguard Veterans
  • Forgeworld Death Guard conversion set
  • Forgeworld Apostate Preachers of Nurgle
  • Forgeworld upgrade kits for Black Templar Terminators
  • Forgeworld Black Templar Venerable Dreadnaught

So, plenty to keep me busy into the new year and beyond! I also picked up a Chaos Terminator Lord, the plastic boxed figure, and have already assembled it, and GS’d it too! He is now a grim and bloated Chaos Lord of Nurgle. I’ll post pictures up soon. I need to get on board with all my other projects!

Thats it for now, have a great New Year!!

Paul

Quick update – Nurgle Rhino WIP

16 12 2008

Hi all!

The work on the Nurgle Rhino is finally done. and ready for priming! In total there is about 5 hours work on this, and thats after the basic body was built. I finished the GS-ing last night, with the addition of the Nurgle icon eyeballs, and a couple more patches of goo. I added a couple of patches of sand as well here and there, which will be painted up like some sort of crusty disease when I paint it.  The only thing I need to do now is glue a spike on the (ex)Death Korps chap…

eyes to despise...

More chaos! Update! New page added!

15 12 2008

Hello all!

thanks for checking out my page, the traffic over the last couple of weeks has been staggering, so I wanted to give a nod to the folks at the Privateer Press forums and also Bolter and Chainsword Forum as well. Check them out if you have’nt already. The linkies are over on the right, so clicky! ————->

My comrade in arms, Evan Smith, has sent me some pictures of his vile forces of Chaos, so I added them over at the ‘Friends and Foes’ page. I am still messing around with that, and may change the format yet, but in the meantime, check out the gallery of eeevil at http://whencannonsfade.wordpress.com/friends-and-foes/from-the-warp-evan-smiths-forces/ You can peruse the mini’s while enjoying the track ‘World Eater’ by Bolt Thrower. A fitting tune, considering Evan has thirty something Khorne Berzerkers in his force… urk!

Onward into battle!
